Our Story

The outdoor market experience takes place in all kinds of weather from May 1 to October 31. The market moves indoors to the heated Morrow Building November 1 to April 30 with over 60 vendors.

Our History

The Peterborough Farmers' Market is one of the oldest markets in Ontario. The establishment of a central market area for individual trade or sales has been a feature of societies all over the world for centuries. This trade has taken place in Peterborough for the past 195 years. We at the Peterborough Farmer's Market are proud to be part of this popular phenomenon. The concept of a farmers’ markets has been around for a long time – since suppliers of food and other goods gathered to retail their wares in village squares. The markets have transformed over time as retailer and consumer preferences shift. Modern grocery stores now attempt to replicate the feel of village markets through design and ambiance while maximizing convenience and product selection. However, the reality is much of their products travel great distances, are harvested early before they reach optimal maturity, and take money out of the local community.

Our Philosophy

Our vision is to be a prospering year-round marketplace destination that educates consumers and connects them with a network of new and generational food growers and producers. We contribute to the sustainability of agriculture by enhancing access to fresh, local Ontario produce and goods, and by fostering a lively and diverse market that inspires relationships between farmers, entrepreneurs and the community.
