Millar Farms

Our Story

Located near the north shore of Rice Lake in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township, Millar Farms is a relatively small but thriving producer of eggs and roasting chickens. Dating back to 1903 when the 100-acre farm first began selling products at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market, it has been lovingly guided since by multiple generations of the Millar family, each providing the local community with farm-to-table, ethically raised nutritious food.

Our products

As part of the Egg Farmers of Canada our eggs and roasting chickens meet and exceed standards for food safety and animal care. This ensures the quality of our products and assures our customers that wholly responsible practices are strictly adhered to.

Where and how you can purchase our products.

Purchase eggs and roasting chickens from us at our farm gate or at the year-round Peterborough Regional Farmers’ Market on Wednesday and Saturday. Drop May through October at Quaker Foods City Square, Aylmer and Charlotte Streets, and November through April at Peterborough Square. Our eggs are also available at The Main Ingredient, One Fine Food and Hard Winter Bakery in Peterborough, John’s Your Independent Grocer in Bridgenorth, and Sullivan’s General Store in Ennismore.

Our History

Each generation of Millar Farms brings the strong work ethic that was the hallmark of our great-grandparents when they started working the farm at its current location. That legacy continues today with the fifth generation now overseeing Millar Farms and its continued local farmers’ market presence as the sixth generation learns much the same as preceding generations – by contributing to the chores while displaying great care for the land and the animals. Kawartha Choice Farm Fresh (KCFF) has proven invaluable- allowing us to stay connected to our farming community and also spreading the word about our products and how customers can access them.  

Our philosophy

If our chickens aren’t happy, they won’t produce.  At Millar Farms, our animals’ comfort and well-being is our priority. We have always adhered to the belief that animal care comes first. Multiple generations of our family have had, and still have, bigger hearts because of how each of us were brought up around animals.
