Our Story

In a world going too fast too quickly, McLean and Buckhorn Berry Farms transports visitors back to a simpler time via a wholly immersive farm experience steeped in natural goodness. We produce a wide variety of farm fresh produce at our original 99-acre McLean Berry Farm, with most all of our strawberry and raspberry planting/harvesting done at our 187-acre Buckhorn Berry Farm location.

Our products

As a harbinger of warmer days ahead, we kick off the spring season by collecting, boiling and bottling our own maple syrup.

As spring continues, we prepare for planting and begin to sow seeds for the coming summer season. Our farm store opens with the start of berry season in mid-June and remains open until October, offering pick-your-own strawberries, raspberries, sugar snap and pod peas, and beans as well as other locally sourced food products.

Starting on the Thanksgiving weekend, and continuing through October, our annual Pumpkinfest features pumpkin picking, wagon rides, mazes, a pumpkin cannon and more back-to-nature seasonal activities at our Buckhorn Berry Farm location.

Where and how you can purchase our products

For more than 30 years, we’ve had a huge presence at six local farmers’ markets, each within a 100-kilometre radius of our farms. Everything we sell at farmers’ markets is grown by us, earning us MyPick certification from Farmers’ Markets Ontario.

In addition, we have two on-farm stores – one at each farm location – that offer not only our farm fresh food but also a bevy of locally produced products such as eggs, cheese, meat, honey and sauces. Visit our website at www.mcleanberryfarm.com/produce-products/ for a full listing of seasonal products available.

McLean Berry Farm is located at 2191 16th Line, Lakefield and can be reached at 705-657-2134. Buckhorn Berry Farm, at 3055 Berrie Road, Lakefield, can be reached at 705-657-8888.

Our history

With a love of gardening and a desire to be connected to locally grown food, Sam and Jane McLean bought a farm on the 16th Line of Lakefield in 1991. Joining their parents full-time in the pursuit of their dream, children Erin and Ben helped expand the operation in 2010 to include a second location on nearby Berrie Road.

A KCFF member since the program’s inception, we continue to foster close connections with our community, resulting in McLean and Buckhorn Berry Farms being a long-cherished one-stop outdoor getaway for those wanting to source local food products while enjoying related on-farm experiences.

Our philosophy

The immersive farm experience has been and remains, a generational tradition for countless families, the children of which are now sharing that same opportunity with their own children. At McLean and Buckhorn Berry Farms, we strive to further a growing desire by many to connect directly with local food producers and the food they toil endlessly to produce in a country setting that is as wholesome as it is bountiful.

What makes us unique

While McLean and Buckhorn Berry Farms wholesales its farm fresh food to the regional market and has a longstanding presence at local farmers’ markets, it’s widely known for its provision of pick-your-own opportunities that have seen thousands flock to both farms to bring nature’s goodness to their tables. Such interactions provide us with the welcome opportunity to educate visitors and school groups on the work and many processes involved in producing food on a large scale.

Experiences we offer

With an emphasis on quality, freshness and friendly customer service, we work tirelessly to ensure the food we grow is the best it can possibly be. We welcome the public to our farm to create connections between you and your food, allowing you to see where and how it is grown.
